Magnet fishing is a very fun hobby, since it grew in popularity over the past decade many great discoveries have been made.
Unlike metal detecting its a little less common that valuable items are found while magnet fishing. However that doesn’t mean valuable items aren’t found ever!
I recently wrote a post on how to make money metal detecting, so I thought it was only right that I should do the same here and look at how to make money magnet fishing!
Magnet fishing is in my opinion the hardest of all treasure hunting hobbies to make money, however there are ways.
I don’t want you to get your hopes up and think that its easy to make money magnet fishing, because it really isn’t!
Magnet fishing can be dangerous so be sure to read our post on the dangers of magnet fishing and how you can stay safe before you start.
Then you can check out the best places to go magnet fishing to also help maximize your haul.
So….
Can you make money magnet fishing?
Yes you can make money magnet fishing, but its highly unlikely its going to be by pulling something valuable from the water. If you want to make money magnet fishing there are numerous ways such as selling your items, weighing in your scrap metal, creating a YouTube channel and making a blog.
Save and sell your scrap metal
Some magneteers collect all of the scrap metal they pull from the water. Usually over the period of a year.
Trust me if you’re out magnet fishing regularly the amount of scrap metal will mount up quite quickly!
You can sell this scrap metal at a metal recycling centre, it’s not going to make you rich but you could pay for your equipment from doing this and have a little pocket money too!
To find your local scrap metal dealers or recycling centre just type into Google – Sell scrap metal near me!
Make sure you’ve got the best magnet for magnet fishing to ensure you maximize your haul.
Sell your magnet fishing finds
Lots of magnet fishers prefer to keep their finds, some restore and upcycle, then some just like to sell.
Obviously please don’t try and sell knives, guns and other weapons you may have found.
However, there are collectors for just about everything out there! You’ll be surprised at the things people purchase.
So head on over to eBay and check out if you’ve found something magnet fishing that could sell!
You never know you might just have something valuable or interesting.
I know that some magnet fisherman out there, either restore or upcycle their finds and sell them on.
Look out for lost boating tools as these can be profitable.
Create a YouTube channel
YouTube is the second largest search engine, just behind Google and gets tonnes of visitors each day.
They rely on content creators to upload their videos and build an audience.
If you head on over to YouTube you’ll see that lots of people who enjoy the hobby of magnet fishing, create videos showcasing their finds and experience.
Once you build up an audience YouTube allow you to display ads on your video, if anyone clicks on these ads you get a cut of the ad revenue!
You could also sign up to the Amazon affiliate program and review your equipment, dropping a cheeky affiliate link in the description. If subsequently someone buys from Amazon after clicking your link you’ll get a commission.
Make a Blog
Much like this blog, you could create your very own!
It’s really not as difficult as one may think, there are many tutorials out there to help you.
All you’d need is a domain name, hosting and to learn how to setup WordPress and you’re away.
You’d then go on to create posts about magnet fishing, how to guides, reviews and perhaps a diary of your days out!
Monetisation comes once you start getting some visitors to your magnet fishing blog.
Very similar to the making money with magnet fishing method above, YouTube, you monetise the blog with ads and affiliate links!
Grow Social Media Channels
Another way you could potentially make money from the hobby of magnet fishing is to take advantage of one of the many social media channels such as Facebook, Instagram and TikTok.
Create your own group on Facebook, share your videos to Instagram & TikTok and build up your following.
Once you are established and have an audience you can drop affiliate links in your descriptions and posts or display ads over your videos.
This method will take time, but if you get a large enough audience the potential to make money is there.
Check out some other popular magnet fishers and reverse engineer how they engage their audience and what they do to grow their channels.
